ウルカン両破天連、ケリコリヤ、リイス両イルマンの計策等これを載すといえども、日本にて見聞するところはこれを取るべし。彼の国の書も伝わらず、その国の談事、何等の口伝をもって書き載せたるや、最も疑いなく確実ゆえに、発端を除いてこの書に載せず。

Although [the original text] records the schemes of the two padres Vulcan and [another], and the two irmãos Kericoriya and Riisu, what we have observed and heard in Japan should be adopted. Since the books from that country have not been transmitted, and we do not know by what oral traditions the stories of that country were recorded, and since [such accounts] are most unreliable and doubtful, we exclude the opening section and do not include it in this book.
