王ノ子ニシテ。乃是人ナリ。其人ナルヲ以テ。何ソ
ヨク人ヲ救ハンヤ。加之ス釋迦ニ五百ノ人願ア
ル者ハ。是天主デイウスニ對シテ。立ル處ノ誓願
也。ソレ願ト云ハ。能願アル人ハ。所願ノ主アルニ
因テナリ。若能受ノ天主ナクンハ。何ソ所立ノ願
アランヤ。世人此理ヲシラス。深ク是ヲ思フヘシ。
受持經巻何ソ用ルニ足ンヤ。上天ハライソヲ除
テ。外ニ安樂ノ處ナシ何ノ寂光カコレ有ンヤ。念
佛ヲ宗トスル者ハ彌陀佛ヲ頼ミ。口ニ名号ヲ稱
シテ。此功力ニ因テ。西方淨土ニ生セントホツス。
現代語訳
王の子であって、すなわちこれは人である。その人であることをもって、どうしてよく人を救うことができようか。加えて釈迦に五百の誓願があるというのは、これは天主デウスに対して立てるところの誓願である。そもそも願というのは、願を立てる人があるのは、願を受ける主があることによるのである。もし願を受ける天主がなければ、どうして立てるところの願があろうか。世人はこの理を知らない。深くこれを思うべきである。経巻を受持することが何の役に立とうか。天上はパライソを除いて、外に安楽の処はなし。何の寂光がこれ有ろうか。念仏を宗とする者は阿弥陀仏を頼み、口に名号を称して、この功力によって西方浄土に生まれんと欲する。

and thus he was a human being. Being human, how could he possibly save people? Moreover, when it is said that Shakyamuni made five hundred vows, these are vows made toward the Lord God Deus. Now, regarding vows - the reason there is a person who makes vows is because there exists a Lord who receives those vows. If there were no heavenly Lord to receive them, how could there be vows to be made? People of the world do not understand this principle. They should think deeply about this. What use is there in upholding sutras? In heaven, apart from Paradise, there is no other place of peace and bliss. What kind of Pure Land of Tranquil Light could there be? Those who take nenbutsu as their doctrine rely on Amida Buddha, chant the sacred name with their mouths, and through this merit desire to be born in the Western Pure Land.
