Acting selfishly, he concealed and deceived, submitting several petitions of his own convenience.
Even hell's judgment depends on money - such was known to be a world where one could not let their guard down. King Enma, being busy with various governmental affairs, had not a moment's rest when the prison guards came forward with high lanterns bearing the character "地" (earth/hell), leading a single sinner. When King Enma looked from afar, he saw a monk about twenty years old, pale and thin, with shackles on his hands and neck, and something wrapped in a cloth bundle tied around his waist. When asked what crime this person had committed, the Kushōjin (birth deity) stepped forward and said: "This monk was a disciple in Edo of Great Japan in Nansenbushū, but became infatuated with a young onnagata actor named Segawa Kikunojō from Sakai-machi. He sold his master's crimson brocade curtains and furnishings at the market, and an Amida Buddha statue attributed to Gyōki found its way to a pawnshop's storehouse. His excessive love for the young actor left him with anal fissures, and he was confined to house arrest. Lamenting his fate and suffering from being unable to meet his beloved even in the reality of Utsu-no-yamabe, he died in vain. Even in his final agony, what he could not forget was the image of Rokō (Kikunojō)." Even here, he does not part with it - what is attached to his waist is by Torii Kiyonobu
