like forcing someone to do so." Moreover, having heard the reputation from the mortal world, Kikunojō's exceptional beauty has long been well-known, so at least as a memory of this world, I would like to see even a portrait of him. Please grant permission for this matter," he pleaded. The King of Hell replied with displeasure, "Each to their own taste, as with the insect that eats bitter smartweed - that describes you perfectly. However, such an earnest request is hard to refuse. Looking at pictures shall be as you wish. But since I dislike looking at young men, while the picture is visible I shall close my eyes and not look, so quickly close your eyes as well."
When they hung the portrait that the sinner had brought on a pillar, its purity was like spring willows embracing the new moon, and its beauty resembled peach blossoms wreathed in morning mist. The elegance of that figure was beyond description, so everyone gazed without looking away, exclaiming in wonder, and for a while the commotion did not cease.
Indeed, though beautiful things in the mortal world are said to be heavenly beings descended from above, that is ultimately like the fragrance of distant flowers. In this country's paradise, it is as if ordinary people ascend, and since we constantly see heavenly beings, we do not think them particularly beautiful. When compared to Rikō, there is as much difference as between the King of Hell's crown and a hungry ghost's loincloth. Rikō's appearance surpasses what we had heard - what unparalleled beauty of all ages! The Ten Kings and others watching made their eyes gleam
