之丞曰我も兼て其 望（のぞみ）ありながら事繁（しげき）に
まぎれて打過ぬればいざや一日出て遊んとの催（もよほし）
然らば連をも誘ふべししかしあまり大勢
もそう〴〵しければとて夫より来￣ル十五日と日を
定て鎌倉平九郎中村与三八なんどへ使して
いひものしけるに何れもしかるべしとの返事
なればいよ〳〵十五日 早朝（そうてう）よりときはめ船中
の事などつど〳〵に約（やく）して八重桐は我家に
ぞ帰りける

現代語訳
之丞は言った、「我も兼てその望みありながら、事繁きにまぎれて打ち過ぎぬれば、いざや一日出でて遊ばん」との催し。「然らば連中をも誘うべし。しかしあまり大勢もそうそうしければ」とて、夫より来たる十五日と日を定めて、鎌倉平九郎、中村与三八などへ使者して言い送ったところ、何れも「しかるべし」との返事なれば、いよいよ十五日早朝よりと時を決め、船中のことなどつどつどに約して、八重桐は我が家に帰った。

Kikunojō said, "I too have long had such a desire, but being caught up in various busy affairs, I have let time pass. Come now, let us go out and enjoy ourselves for a day"—thus was the plan set in motion. "In that case, we should invite our colleagues as well. However, too large a group would be rather cumbersome," so they decided on the coming fifteenth day, sending messengers to Kamakura Heikurō, Nakamura Yosahachi and others. When all replied that it "would be suitable," they firmly set the time for early morning on the fifteenth, made various arrangements for matters aboard the boat, and Yaegiri returned to her home.
