人間をたぶらかすは坊主共の得手ものなれば早速
御請申上べけれど此度の御用には心苦き事の侍る也
其故は涼船（すゞみぶね）の往来する両国永代の辺には見せもの
師共甚多く唐鳥（からとり）熊（くま）女 碁盤（ごばんむすめ）娘なども古（ふるく）孔雀（くじやく）
にも入がなければ犬にかるわざをさせ甘藷（さつまいも）に笛
まで吹せる程（ほど）の者共何がな珍しき物見出さんと
鵜（う）の目 鷹（たか）の目にてさがし求れば私などのやう

事なれば死る命はいとはねども大切の御用間違

なると経文にもないうそ八百をつき散らし、堂の寄進や釣鐘の寄付などと言い立てて衆生をだますゆえに、いつとなく化物仲間へ入れられ、「姫路におさかべ赤手ぬぐい」と一口に謡われる事は、仏の教えにあるべき事でもないけれども、お上にもよく御存知の上からは隠すべきでもない。しかし他所の御用ならば、人間をだますのは坊主共の得意なものなので、早速お請けを申し上げるべきだが、この度の御用には心苦しい事がある。
その理由は、涼み船の往来する両国・永代の辺りには見世物師共が甚だ多く、唐鳥・熊・碁盤娘なども古くなり、孔雀にも客が入らなければ、犬に軽業をさせ、甘藷に笛まで吹かせるほどの者共が、何か珍しい物を見出そうと、鵜の目鷹の目で探し求めているので、私などのような異形の者があの辺へ顔出しをすれば、たちまち捕らえられて憂き目を見るのは間違いない。もとより出家の事なので死ぬ命は厭わないけれども、大切の御用を間違える事は本意でないので、余人にお仰せ付けられるべきである。
