計算法：横の内法七尺八寸を（そのまま）置いて、これを六尺五寸で割ると、一間二分（1.2間）となる。これを左右（縦・横）に置いて掛けると、一坪四分四厘となる。さらにこれに高さ二間を掛けると、二坪八分八厘と知れる。
また別法として、七尺八寸を左右（縦・横）に置いて掛けると、六〇・八四（平方尺）となる。これに高さ二間を掛けると、一二一・六八となる。これを四二・二五で割ると、二坪八分八厘と知れる。

**The method:** Take the inner width of 7 shaku 8 sun, and divide it by 6 shaku 5 sun (the length of 1 ken), giving 1.2 ken. Place this on both sides (i.e., square it), giving 1 tsubo, 4 bu, 4 rin. Then multiply this by the height of 2 ken, and one finds the answer to be 2 tsubo, 8 bu, 8 rin.
Alternatively, place 7 shaku 8 sun on both sides (i.e., square it), giving 60.84 (square shaku). Multiply this by the height of 2 ken, giving 121.68. Divide this by 42.25, and one finds the answer to be 2 tsubo, 8 bu, 8 rin.
