The method: Place 5 shaku on both sides (left and right) and multiply them together, giving 25. Multiply this by the circular coefficient 79 (i.e., 0.79), giving 19.75. Multiply this by the length of 9 ken, giving 177.75. Divide this by 42.25, and one finds the answer to be 4 tsubo, 2 gō, 7 sai.
