主人が三人の頭（かしら）に請け負わせるとき、
一人目の頭の人夫 七百八十人あり
二人目の頭の人夫 千五百人あり
三人目の頭の人夫 七百二十人あり
三頭合わせて三千人なり。一頭につき間数はそれぞれ何間ずつかと問う。

Whether it be earthwork or the building of a wall, there is a total construction frontage of 575 *ken*. The master assigns the work to three foremen (*kashira*) to undertake:
The first foreman's crew has 780 laborers
The second foreman's crew has 1,500 laborers
The third foreman's crew has 720 laborers
The three foremen together have 3,000 laborers in total. One asks: how many *ken* shall each foreman's crew be assigned?
