【巻下四十八丁表】
法に言う。実に千七百二十八坪と置きて、まず実にて
位を見る。○一、十、○一、十、○一、十と数えるごとく
数えて上がり見る時に、「十」というは十の位なり。
まず商に「十」と置きて、また下方にて○一、十と上がりて
「十」と置くなり。これは商の十に従いて置くなり。
さて法にいて、下方の「十」に、商の「十」を呼ぶなり。
一一の百と置き、また法の百より、一、十と数えて
上がりて、法の百に、商の十を呼ぶ。一一の千坪と
なるなり。これを実にて引き払うなり。

The method states: Place 1,728 tsubo in the *jitsu* [dividend register], and first examine the place value using the *jitsu*. Count in groups as follows: ○one, ten; ○one, ten; ○one, ten — counting upward in this manner. When one arrives at "ten," this means it is in the tens place. First, place "ten" in the *shō* [quotient register]; then, in the *shimohō* [lower register], count up ○one, ten, and place "ten." This is placed in accordance with the ten in the *shō*.
Next, in the *hō* [method register], call the "ten" of the *shimohō* with the "ten" of the *shō*. This gives one-times-one, making one hundred; place it there. Then, from the hundreds in the *hō*, count up one, ten, and rising further, call the ten of the *shō* against the hundreds in the *hō*. This becomes one-times-one, yielding one thousand tsubo. Subtract this from the *jitsu*.
○ The remainder is 728 tsubo.
