【巻上三十三丁裏】
相場（さうは）五百弐拾八匁を四十四にわれは金壱匁に付
銀拾二匁つつになるこれを金廿五匁にかくれは

皆初心成人は如此に置（おく）也是はことによりて
あわぬさん用なり そのしようこあり

【巻上三十三丁裏】
相場五百二十八匁を四十四で割ると、金一匁につき銀十二匁ずつになる。これを金二十五匁に掛けると、銀三百目と知るべし。
初心者はみなこのように（順を追って）計算する。しかしこれは場合によっては合わない（誤差が生じる）計算法である。その証拠がある。
金七匁四分八厘があり、判金の相場五百目替えの時、五百目を四十四で割ると、金一匁につき銀十一匁三分六厘三毛六糸三忽ずつにあたる。これに右の金七匁四分八厘を掛けると、
○銀八十四匁九分九厘九毛九糸五忽になるのである。

このようにして（途中で端数を生じさせて）組み合わせると（答えが）合わず、よくない計算（法）である。
金七匁四分八厘がある時、判金の相場五百目替えにして、右の金に銀がどれほどかと問う時に、
○銀八十五匁になるという。
計算法：金七匁四分八厘に相場五百目を掛けると三七四（三千七百四十）になる。これを四十四で割ると八十五匁と知るべし。これが良い計算法である。この心掛け（考え方）は万事に良い。
銀八十五匁がある時に、判金の相場五百目にして、右の銀に金がどれほどかと問う時に、
○金七匁四分八厘になるという。

Dividing the exchange rate of 528 monme by 44 gives 12 monme of silver per 1 monme of gold. Multiplying this by 25 monme of gold, one should know that the result is 300 me of silver.
Beginners generally calculate in this step-by-step manner. However, depending on the case, this is a calculation method that does not yield exact results. There is proof of this.
When there are 7 monme 4 bu 8 rin of gold, and the exchange rate of ban'kin is 500 me, dividing 500 me by 44 gives 11 monme 3 bu 6 rin 3 mō 6 shi 3 kotsu of silver per 1 monme of gold. Multiplying this by the said 7 monme 4 bu 8 rin of gold:
○It becomes 84 monme 9 bu 9 rin 9 mō 9 shi 5 kotsu of silver.

Calculating in this way — introducing rounding errors partway through — causes the figures to not reconcile, making it a poor method of calculation.
When there are 7 monme 4 bu 8 rin of gold, and exchanging at the ban'kin rate of 500 me, when asking how much silver the said gold amounts to:
○It becomes 85 monme of silver.
The method: Multiplying 7 monme 4 bu 8 rin of gold by the exchange rate of 500 me gives 374 (i.e., 3,740). Dividing this by 44 gives 85 monme, as one should know. This is the correct calculation method. This approach is good for all manner of calculations.
When there are 85 monme of silver, and the ban'kin exchange rate is 500 me, when asking how much gold the said silver amounts to:
○It becomes 7 monme 4 bu 8 rin of gold.
