右のかねにかくれは目たし四〆五百文になる
四貫文に四四の百六拾文と加入六百文に又
四六廿四文と加入申時四〆六百八拾四文と知

四貫文に対して「四四」で百六十文を加え入れ、六百文に対して「四六」二十四文を加え入れると、四貫六百八十四文と知ることができる。
**銭四貫六百八十四文ある時、相場十六匁にして、右の銭の銀はどれほどかと問う時に**
○銀七十五匁になるという
計算法では、四貫六百八十四文を右に置き、六百文で「四六」二十四文を引いて、四貫文で「四四」の百六十文を引き払う時、四貫五百文になる。これを六十文で割る時、銀七十五匁になるのである。ただし、これは（相場が）十六匁の

時はよいのであるが、世間の値段（相場）の時（一般的な場合）にはこのやり方では正確ではない（使いにくい）。
**銀七十七匁八分五厘ある時、銭の相場が壱〆文につき十八匁の時、右の銀に銭がどれほどになるかと問う時に**
○四貫三百二十四文になるという
計算法では、銀七十七匁八分五厘を右に置き、十八匁で右を割ると四貫三百二十五文になる。そこで二十五文を、まず五文の位で「四」を五文に掛けて「四五二十」と引き、四文八（分）となる。また二十文についても、二十文の位で「二四」の八を引く時、四貫三百二十四文と知るべし。
この算（計算法）の下引き（端数の処理法）はいずれにも（他の問題にも）使えてよい。

**When one has 4,684 mon in coins, and the exchange rate is 16 monme per 1,000 mon, when asked how much silver corresponds to these coins:**
○It becomes 75 monme of silver.
In the calculation method: place 4,684 mon on the right. Subtract 24 mon using "four-six" from the 600 mon, and subtract 160 mon using "four-four" from the 4,000 mon; this reduces to 4,500 mon. Dividing this by 60 mon yields 75 monme of silver. Note, however, that this method works well when the rate is 16 monme,

but for general market rates it is not suitable (i.e., the method only applies neatly to the 16-monme rate).
**When one has 77 monme, 8 bu, and 5 rin of silver, and the coin exchange rate is 18 monme per 1,000 mon, when asked how many mon the silver amounts to:**
○It becomes 4,324 mon.
In the calculation method: place 77 monme 8 bu 5 rin of silver on the right. Dividing the right by 18 monme gives 4,325 mon. Then, from this figure, deal with the 25 mon: at the fives place, multiply 4 by 5 mon using "four-fives-twenty" and subtract, leaving 4 mon 8 (parts). Then for the 20 mon at the twenties place, apply "two-four" (i.e., 8) and subtract, giving 4,324 mon as the answer.
This method of subtracting remainders (end-fraction adjustment) is applicable and useful in all similar calculations.
