【巻下十七丁裏】
一 二枚ひようふの高さ五尺はゝ三尺あり 両にて
よこ六尺有 是に四寸の金／薄（ばく）なににほと入と問（とう）
○百八拾七まい半入といふ
法に五尺に六尺をかくれは一寸の坪三千坪に成
これを四寸薄の坪かす十六にてわるときに

【巻下十七丁裏】
一 二枚の屏風（びょうぶ）の高さ五尺、幅（はば）三尺あり、両（りょう）で横六尺あり。これに四寸の金箔（きんぱく）はどれほど入るかと問う時に、
○百八十七枚半入るという。
計算法：五尺に六尺を掛けると、一寸坪（ひとつぼ）で三千坪になる。これを四寸箔の坪数十六で割ると、百八十七枚半と分かる。これに（余裕として）一割も二割も（余分に）入れるものである。いずれも箔の質（素材）によって異なる。おおよそかくのごとしと知るべし。

計算法：七寸を左右に置いて掛けると四十九になる。これに六角形の係数（ほうすう）〔0.〕二五九八を掛けると百二十七坪三分二毛（もう）ある。これを三寸箔の法（坪数）九坪で割ると、三寸箔で十四枚一分四厘と分かる。

1. Two folding screens (*byōbu*) each measure 5 shaku in height and 3 shaku in width; together, their combined width is 6 shaku. One asks how many sheets of 4-sun gold foil are needed to cover them.
○The answer is 187 and a half sheets.
Method: Multiply 5 shaku by 6 shaku, which gives 3,000 tsubo (square sun units). Divide this by 16, the number of tsubo in one 4-sun foil sheet, and the result is 187 and a half sheets. In practice, one should add 10% or even 20% extra. This varies depending on the quality of the foil. Know that the above is a general guideline.

1. When a hexagonal object has sides of 7 sun each, and one wishes to apply 3-sun gold foil to it, one asks how many sheets of foil are needed.

Method: Place 7 sun on both the left and right and multiply them together, giving 49. Multiply this by the hexagonal coefficient 0.2598, yielding 127 tsubo, 3 bu, 2 mō. Divide this by 9 tsubo, the area of one 3-sun foil sheet, and the result is 14 sheets, 1 bu, 4 rin of 3-sun foil.
