別名（べつみやう）清（すが）の湯山主（ゆやまぬし）と申（もふし）奉（たてまつ）りしを
事（こと）八十（やそ）の神（かみ）大己貴（おほあなむち）を殺（ころ）さむと
議（はかり）て猪（い）に似（に）たる大石（たいせき）を焼（やき）て

The reason these two deities (Ōanamuchi-no-mikoto and Sukunahikona-no-mikoto) are enshrined at hot spring locations is because they are the ancestral gods of physicians. According to the divine records, Ōanamuchi-no-mikoto's alternative name is Suga-no-yuyamanushi (Master of the Hot Spring Mountain of Suga). When the eighty gods conspired to kill Ōanamuchi, they heated a large stone resembling a boar and rolled it down upon him. Due to this incident, the place where Ōanamuchi-no-mikoto was relocated came to be called Iyama (Boar Mountain), but because the character for boar was considered inauspicious...
