右土佐国博多郡中濱浦萬二郎等五人天保十二辛
丑年正月五日同国宇佐浦出帆時ニ萬二郎齢十五歳□
夫ゟ暦数十二年ヲ経テ嘉永五《割書：壬｜子》年十月十五日恙無ク帰

右ノ原本ハ東都岡野氏家蔵ノ写本ナリ然ルニ□頃日丁版本ヲ見タリ其表

漂流譚一巻好右ノ両人ニ送リ売買ヲ禁シ深ク移ストアリ然ルニ右記セル

異ナリ今コヽニ萬二郎一人ヲ挙テ他ハ略ス傳蔵召仕ノ漁師満二郎

【右丁】
土佐国幡多郡中濱浦の万次郎ら五人は、天保十二辛丑年（1841年）正月五日、同国宇佐浦より出帆した時、万次郎は十五歳であった。それから十二年を経て、嘉永五《注記：壬｜子》年（1852年）十月十五日、無事に帰着した。
右の原本は江戸の岡野氏家所蔵の写本である。しかし近頃、木版本を見た。その表題には「土佐国漁師万次郎漂流記 肥前長崎通詞記録 滄浪軒蔵版」とある。これは漂流譚一巻で、この両人に贈り売買を禁じ、深く秘蔵するとある。しかし右に記したところと大同小異であり、かつ粗漏が多く、写本の詳密さに及ばない。また五人の年齢なども皆異なっている。今ここに万次郎一人を挙げて他は略す。「伝蔵召使いの漁師満次郎二十四歳」とある。

The five men including Manjiro from Nakahama-ura, Hata District, Tosa Province set sail from Usa-ura in the same province on the fifth day of the first month of Tenpo 12, year of the metal ox (1841), when Manjiro was fifteen years old. After twelve years had passed, they safely returned on the fifteenth day of the tenth month of Kaei 5《note: mizunoe｜ne》(1852).
The original manuscript mentioned above is a copy held in the collection of the Okano family in Edo. However, recently I saw a woodblock-printed edition. Its title reads "Drift Record of Manjiro, Fisherman of Tosa Province - Records by an Interpreter of Nagasaki, Hizen Province - Published by Sorokken." This is one volume of a drift tale, given to these two people with prohibition of sale and kept in deep secrecy. However, what is recorded there differs only in minor details from what is written above, and moreover contains many omissions and errors, not matching the detailed precision of the manuscript. Also, details such as the ages of the five men all differ. Here I mention only Manjiro and omit the others. It states "Fisherman Manjiro, servant of Denzo, twenty-four years old."
