Item: On the fifth day of the same month, as Lord Karasumaru, the Former Grand Counselor (Saki-no-Dainagon, Mitsuhide), was to travel down to Edo as an Imperial Envoy (chokusha), [the lord] submitted the following written oral communication (kōjō-gaki) to the Duty Councillor (go-yōban), Lord Sakai Uta-no-kami (Tadayuki), through the domain's Edo Representative (o-rusuī), Tsuda Kurōemon (Morinobu): Written Oral Communication (Kōtatsu-oboegaki) On this occasion, the Former Grand Counselor Karasumaru is traveling down from Kyoto. He is, to me, the husband of my cousin [i.e., my cousin's husband, making him a cousin-in-law]. Accordingly, during his sojourn [in Edo], I wish to call upon him at his lodgings and also to invite him to my own residence.
