Seventh day of the fourth month Matsudaira Hyōbu-no-taifu
Having submitted the above, on the following eighth day [the lord] was summoned to the same place, and a directive was received via an attached note (tsuke-fuda) indicating that both matters could proceed as [the lord] saw fit.
Item: On the eleventh day of the fourth month, as the circuit inspectors (junkenshi) arrived in Fukui, the chief elders (karō) and officials went out as far as Mitsuhashi-guchi to receive them. Messengers were dispatched to the lodgings of Lord Ōkubo Shichibe (Norihira) (lodging: Keishō Gorōemon), Lord Yamaoka Gorozaku (Kageyuki) (lodging: Tenka-ya Shōzaemon), and Lord Tsukushi Uhei (Tsūmon) (lodging: Kanaya Yasuke), as follows: Yoriai [a middle-ranking retainer] Suganuma Kunai (Tsugitsune) (accompanied by the Town Magistrate, Iwakami Kajidayū), Sakai Heima (Narinobu) (accompanied by the Inspector, Nara Gonzaemon), and Makino Orinosuke (Morisato) (accompanied by the Head of Advance Guard, Tsutsumi Shichidayū).
Item: On the twelfth day of the same month, as the circuit inspectors departed Fukui, the chief elders and officials went out as far as Kaga-Gomon-guchi to see them off.
Item: On the sixteenth day of the same month, through the Senior Councillor (rōjū) acting as imperial messenger (jōshi), Lord Sakai Uta-no-kami (Tadayuki), permission to return to the home domain (o-hima) was formally announced, and [the lord] received the customary gifts of silver and a scroll (makimono).
From the Ōgosho-sama [the retired Shōgun] as well, through Lord Uta-no-kami, ten scrolls were received as a gift.
From the Dainagon-sama [the Shōgun's heir], through the attached Senior Councillor, Lord Nishio Oki-no-kami (Tadanao), ten rolls of crepe silk (chirimen) were received for the first time. (The handling of the messenger ceremony followed precedent.) As an expression of gratitude for the above, [the lord] made a round of courtesy calls (mawari-kin) to the Senior Councillors.
Item: On the seventeenth day of the same month, the following brief note (kirigami) arrived from the Duty Councillor, Lord Sakai Uta-no-kami (Tadayuki):
Tomorrow, at the fifth half-hour of the morning [around 8 a.m.], you should proceed to the castle to present your thanks for the permission to return home. Respectfully submitted.
