不少右之類以前は女名前等ニ而

御改革之節万石以下之面々町家
作之町屋敷武備手当之ため分
限ニ応シ所持致シ候儀は不苦旨被
仰出候以来屋敷改衆え相届直名前
ニ而所持罷在右地借店借之もの共え
施差遣し候廉重モニ御座候間右被
仰出以前は女房名前其外町人
名前ニ而御称誉有之来候儀と
相聞え先例無之儀と奉存候今般

少なからず。右の類は以前は女名前等にて町地面を所持罷り在り候ところ、天保十二丑年御改革の節、万石以下の面々が町家作りの町屋敷を武備手当のため分限に応じ所持致し候儀は不苦の旨仰せ出され候以来、屋敷改衆へ相届け直名前にて所持罷り在り。右の地借店借の者共へ施しを差し遣わし候廉は重もに御座候間、右仰せ出し以前は女房名前その外町人名前にて御称誉これ有り来たり候儀と相聞こえ、先例無きの儀と存じ奉り候。今般御称誉御座候はば、右の類相増し万一

This is not insignificant. Previously, such persons held townland properties under women's names and the like, but since the Tenpō 12 (1841) reforms when it was proclaimed that it would be acceptable for those below ten thousand koku to possess town residences built in the townhouse style according to their means for military preparedness, they have reported to the estate inspection officials and now possess them under their direct names. Since providing relief to those who rent land and shops from these properties is a matter of great importance, it appears that before the aforementioned proclamation, there were cases of praise and commendation under wives' names and other townspeople's names, which we believe to be without precedent.
