現代語訳
戸の破れから見ると、痩せ枯れた女が、目つきが月のような目玉を光らせており、三つ目のあり様で、たとえようのない恐ろしい姿であった。
郷介は可内を切り払い、ゆうゆうと道を急ぎ、辻堂に忍び入って、夜の明けるのを待っていた。
そこへ、手にかけた（殺した）女房の瞽女が牛に乗り、三味線を弾きながら小唄を歌ってやって来る。
縁の下からは恐ろしい入道が這い出てくる。
【瞽女の小唄】
「人の報いはあるものか、ないものか。報いは仕方がないかいな。ちちちん、ちんちんてんてつとん」
英語訳
