蚕飼い上げて蔟（まぶし）の事
前編に漏れたることはこの編に記す。蚕が桑を食べるのを止めた時を「飛きる」とも「蟄く（すがく）」とも言うなり。繭を作らせる所を拵えるのを、蔟を掛けるとも「やとい」とも言う。人々の流儀多し。大概を記す。
前編の図にある台に薦を敷き、その上に柴木の枝を二三本敷き並べ、その上に菜がら・わらの類を八重十文字に軽く間々が透くように過不足なく程よくして、その中に繭となって蚕三升余りもあるべき程に見計らって蚕を入れるべし。但し蟄いた蚕は痛みやすし。手軽く取り扱うべし。蔟の内一面に繭の出来て見えるように

On Raising Silkworms and Setting Up Cocoon Frames (Mabushi)
What was omitted from the previous volume shall be recorded in this volume. When silkworms stop eating mulberry leaves, this is called either "tobikiru" or "sugaku." Preparing the place where cocoons are made is called either "hanging the cocoon frames" or "yatohi." There are many different methods according to different people's practices. I shall record the general outline.
On the platform shown in the illustration of the previous volume, lay down straw mats, arrange two or three branches of brushwood on top, and on these place vegetable stalks, straw, and similar materials in a crisscross pattern of eight or ten layers, lightly arranged so that there are gaps with just the right spacing, neither too much nor too little. Into this, place the silkworms, estimating that there will be about three sho or more of silkworms that will form cocoons. However, silkworms that have begun cocooning are easily damaged. Handle them gently. Arrange so that cocoons can be seen forming uniformly throughout the cocoon frame.
