現代語訳
韃靼に入れば一生逃れてかからない。韃靼の人が中国に入れば必ず疱瘡にかかるという。ここにおいて考えるに、胎毒というならば、上古の世に生まれた者は皆胎毒がなかったのか。
小児に必ずこの病気があるのは、髪に油風（白癬）がつき、苗に稲熱病がつくようなもので、幼くして精気が盛んなときにこれを患う。人は一生に一度患って二度と患わないのは疱瘡に限らず、痢病・傷寒・温病の類も人は一生に一度ならでは病まない。蛇が鱗を脱ぐようなものである。髪に白癬があるのは若く盛んなとき、上熱の致すところで、老いてはないものである。
稲に稲熱病がつくのも稲葉が若くて熟していないときである。蛇の脱皮も一生に一度更新すると言い伝えられている。そして痘疹の病気が上古の世にはなくて中世以来あるのは、楊梅瘡が往昔にはなくて二百年来蛮国から伝わってきて、中国・日本ともに盛んになったのと同じである。
このように上古の世にはなくて末世にあるのは病気に限らず、草木・鳥獣の類も文物の開けるに従って様々な異病・異物が出てくることは怪しむべきではない。また疱瘡の神のことも陰陽の濁気である。これもまた上古の世には陰陽の
