本綱曰人誤食ふ其葉を者半日に而黒爛
死無復生する事少し入れは口に則鉤人の喉吻を也故名く
鉤吻と然に食へは半其苗を大に肥る者有るを相伏如

昔岐伯對へて黄帝に言く黄精
益し壽を鉤吻殺人
両種共丑暮春廿有一日
役樂氏相送枝真寫

和漢三才図会毒草類に曰く
鉤吻 野葛 断腸草 毒根 胡蔓草
黄藤 大把花
俗にナベワリ（鍋割）という 人殺し

本綱に曰く、人が誤ってその葉を食べる者は半日で黒く爛れて
死に、生き返ることは少ない。少し口に入れると人の喉を鉤のように引っかけるため、
鉤吻と名付けられた。しかしその苗を食べると大いに肥える者もいるという相反する性質がある
このように
昔、岐伯が黄帝に答えて言うには、黄精は
寿命を延ばし、鉤吻は人を殺す
両種共に己丑年晩春4月21日

The Bencao states: Those who mistakenly eat its leaves will turn black and rot within half a day
and die, with little chance of revival. Even a small amount in the mouth hooks the throat like a hook,
hence the name "gouweng" (hook-kiss). However, there are contradictory reports that some who eat its shoots
become greatly fattened, thus showing opposing properties.
Long ago, Qibo answered the Yellow Emperor, saying that huangjing
extends life, while gouweng kills people
