木賊（もくぞく） 和名 砥草（とくさ）
本草によると、この植物は砥石のような砥草と呼ばれ、木を削る賊である。人間が机上に置いて眺めていると、人の心を削り、目を損なう。石菖蒲は机上に置いて日々眺めていると、人の気を補い、眼を明らかにする。木賊とは異なる。

Mokuzoku (Wood Thief) - Japanese name: Tokusa (Scouring Rush)
According to the Bencao, this plant is called sanding grass like a whetstone, and is a thief that scrapes wood. When humans place it on a desk and gaze at it, it scrapes away one's heart and damages the eyes. Sekishobu (sweet flag), when placed on a desk and viewed daily, supplements human qi and brightens the eyes. It differs from mokuzoku.
