榛（しん） 和名：はしばみ

氏妍芳子が枝を送ってくれたものを写し

榛 はしばみ 榛栗（はしばみ）
『大和本草』
榛の実には空の者が多い。諺に曰く
「十榛九空」今試してみるとこのとおり。凡そ
実が短く花が長いのは栗榛である。実の
嘴が短いのは梓豇豆である、等々
寿云：一種の角榛がある。その花は牛
の角のように二つに分かれて付く。
葉も普通の榛より少し長い。
『本草綱目』によると

According to the "Bencao Gangmu" (Compendium of Materia Medica):
Hazel (Shin) Japanese name: Hashibami
Year of the Ox, Kyōshō (2nd month), 15th day

From "Wamyō Ruijushō" (Japanese Names Dictionary):
Hazel Hashibami Hazel chestnut (Hashibami)
"Yamato Honzō" (Japanese Materia Medica):
Hazel nuts often have empty ones. A proverb says
"Ten hazelnuts, nine empty." Testing this now proves it true. Generally,
those with short nuts and long flowers are chestnut hazels. Those with
short beaks are catalpa beans, etc.
Ju says: There is one variety called horned hazel. Its flowers
attach split in two like ox horns.
The leaves are also slightly longer than ordinary hazelnuts.
