拝見申し上げることができる命の長さも、嬉しさのあまりに、末の世の慰みにもしようと思い、昔物語にも飛鳥部常則や小野道風の言葉などが書き伝えられているので、生きている間にその足跡を辿って、今日の笑い草にはなってしまうだろうが（記録に残そう）。

was the beginning. The ceremony of imperial visits to the viewing pavilion, which had been suspended for the past year or two, was once again magnificently and reverently restored when the former Minister of the Right from the Kazanin family received the joyous command to attend and make preparations. One courtier, Lord Sanetoshi, served while still holding the rank of Middle Captain, and from the northern guards and imperial attendants to the summoners of the imperial vessels and ox-keepers, everything remained exactly as it had been during the previous emperor's processions, with tears rising nostalgically to one's eyes.

The length of life that allows me to witness such events fills me with such joy that I wish to make it a comfort for future generations. Just as the words of Asukabe no Tsunenori and Ono no Tōfū have been recorded and passed down in tales of old, I shall trace their footsteps while I am still alive, though this may well become a source of ridicule in days to come.
