神（じん）の下知（げぢ）を請手／下（した）の水虎（かつぱ）が働（はたらき）にて伴（ともな）ひ
来￣ル路考が姿（すがた）聞しには似も付す存の外の不（ふ）
器量（きりやう）に一座大にあきれ果（はて）定（さだめ）て訳（わけ）の有磯（ありそ）
海（うみ）不／覚（かく）を取（と）りし其／様（やう）子／包（つゝ）まず白状（はくじやう）仕（つかまつ）れと水（かつ）
虎（ぱ）を御／吟味（ぎんみ）有けるに己（おの）が心に覚有／疵（きづ）持（もつ）足（あし）
の気味／悪（わる）く御白／洲（す）にひれ伏（ふし）〱誤（あやまり）入たる有様
よりかつぱと伏（ふす）といふ事は此時よりぞ初（はじまり）ける
され共／漢子（きやつ）も去（さ）￣ル者にて詞をかざり鷺（さぎ）を烏（からす）
いひくろめんと浄頗梨（じやうはり）の鏡に掛（かけ）ての詮議（せんぎ）故
のがれぬ所と覚悟（かくご）して路考が情（なさけ）に大事を忘（わす）れ

萩野（おぎの）八重桐（やえきり）といふ女形を身替（みがわ）りに連（つれ）来（きた）れる
こと有の儘（まゝ）なる白状（はくじやう）に焔王（えんわう）甚（はなはた）怒（いか）らせ玉ひ三千
世界（せかい）を司（つかさど）る此大王を茶にしおるは言諸（こんこ）道断（だうたん）につ
くき奴（やつ）と忽（たちまち）水虎（かつぱ）を蹴殺（けころ）し給ふしたが娑婆
にて死だ者は此所へ来れども此所で死だ者は
行所がない故に魂（たましゐ）娑婆へ迷（まよ）ひ行人のからだ
を仮初（かりそめ）に男色（なんしよく）千人／切（ぎり）の馬鹿（ばか）を尽（つく）すも皆
此／水虎（かつは）の亡魂（ぼうこん）の障礙（しやうげ）をなすとしられたり
それより年を重（かさ）ねても焰王今に熱（ねつ）さめず
路考をごがれ玉へとも定業（でうごふ）にあらざれは大王の

龍神の下知を受けた配下の水虎（河童）の働きによって連れて来られた路考の姿は、聞いていたのとは似ても付かず、思いの外の不器量に一座は大いに呆れ果てた。「きっと訳があるに違いない。意識を失った時の様子を包み隠さず白状せよ」と水虎を取り調べたところ、自分の心に覚えのある傷を持つ足元の悪さで、御白洲にひれ伏しひれ伏し謝り入った有様から「かっぱと伏す」という言葉はこの時より始まったのである。
とはいえ、その男も抜け目のない者で、言葉を飾って鷺を烏と言いくるめようとしたが、浄頗梨の鏡にかけての詮議なので逃れようがないと覚悟して、路考の情けに大事を忘れ

萩野八重桐という女形を身代わりに連れて来たことをありのままに白状した。この白状に閻魔王は甚だしく怒らせられ、「三千世界を司るこの大王を茶化しているとは言語道断な憎い奴だ」と、たちまち水虎を蹴り殺してしまわれた。しかし、娑婆で死んだ者はこの所へ来るけれども、この所で死んだ者は行く所がないので、魂が娑婆へ迷い行き、人の体を仮初めに借りて男色や千人切りの馬鹿を尽くすのも、皆この水虎の亡魂が障害をなすためだと知られている。
