にて我（われ）を蹴殺（けころ）してたび給へと脇目（わきめ）もふらず
祈（いのり）けるが頃しも冬の半（なかば）なれば次第に夜陰（やいん）の空（そら）

れども固（もとより）気丈の生（うま）れつきに一心の誠をあら
はし少もたゆまずこたゆれども寒気／五臓（ござう）に

まるべき正気（しやうき）を失（うしな）ひ打たほれしは目もあてられ

Although Chōuemon also felt pity, he gradually explained: "Even if a child so young were to enter indentured service, the wages would be limited. Instead, if you were to sell yourself to Miyagawa-chō and work as a male prostitute, it would eventually amount to considerable money." When told this, the boy replied: "If it becomes a reasonable sum and saves my parents from their troubles, let my body be torn into eight pieces—
