そのわかちなき人には。味噌を敷（しき）たる
灸（きう）のごとく。応（こたえ）ること少（すく）なからんと。高慢（かうまん）の
鼻（はな）檑槌（すりこぎ）のごとく。天狗（てんぐ）出立（でたち）の味噌／尽（づく）しとホヽ敬（うやまつて）白（もうす）。
　明和五年子の顔見世。柿（かき）の衣（ころも）に兜巾（ときん）篠懸（すぐかけ）。

偽（いつは）りのなき世なりせばいかばかり人の言（こと）の葉（は）
嬉（うれ）しからましされば卵（たまご）の方（しかく）と娼妓（じよらう）に實（まこと）なきのみ
ならず仏法に方便（はうべん）あれは軍法（ぐんはう）に計策（はかりこと）あり浮世
に追従（ついしやう）軽薄（けいはく）あれは参会（であひ）に座（さ）なりおはむきあり
虚言（うそ）あればてれんあり偽あれは手くだありだますと
いひこんたんといひ文（あや）なすといひ懸（かけ）るといふ手（て）
尓於葉（におは）の違（たが）ひはあれとつまる所は引くるめて謊（うそ）
で丸めた世の中に只偽ならぬもの迚（とて）は産（うま）れた者の
死（しぬ）ることにて北州（ほくしう）の千年／蜉蝣（かげろふ）の夕（ゆふべ）長き短（みしか）き

そのような分別のない人には、味噌を敷いた灸のように、効果が少ないであろうと。高慢な鼻はすりこぎのようで、天狗のような出で立ちの味噌尽くしと、恭しく申し上げる。
明和五年子の顔見世で、柿色の衣に兜巾と篠懸を身に着けた風来山人が、切幕より「しばらく」と声をかけて、世上の作者たちの鼻を挫く。

偽りのない世であったなら、どれほど人の言葉が嬉しいことであろう。しかし、卵が四角で遊女に真実がないだけでなく、仏法に方便があれば軍法に計略があり、浮世に追従や軽薄があれば、集まりにはその場しのぎや取り繕いがある。嘘があればてれんがあり、偽りがあれば手管がある。騙すと言い、こんたんと言い、文飾すると言い、かけると言う。手に於いての違いはあるとはいえ、つまるところはひっくるめて嘘で丸めた世の中に、ただ偽りでないものといえば、生まれた者が死ぬということで、北方の千年も生きるものと蜉蝣の夕べ、長いも短いも

If this were a world without falsehood, how delightful human words would be! However, just as eggs are not square and courtesans have no sincerity, if Buddhism has expedient means then military law has stratagems, if the floating world has flattery and frivolity then gatherings have temporizing and pretense. Where there are lies there are theatrical affectations, where there is falsehood there are tricks. We speak of deceiving, of cajolery, of embellishment, of manipulation.
