【Right Page】 Before the appointed time (kokugēn), there is a ceremonial offering of sake cups at the private residences of the left and right kaika officials. When the appointed time arrives, after twenty jōjiri attendants begin their service, the left and right kaika officials begin their service and proceed to the administrative building. (Each wears court dress with a sword, using iris as a waist sash. Two shrine attendants each go ahead. These shrine attendants should enter before the appointed time, as instructed to those in plain robes.) 【Upper margin】 (Plain court dress and plain robes; from Kansei 8, two minor officials each) (When entering the sake hall, a celebratory first offering is presented, accompanied by one official in court dress each, one in plain robes each, and two servants in white each. The umbrella bearer and shoe bearer also each use iris as waist sashes. However, those in court dress carry document boxes and follow with them in outer pouches. The items previously placed in the document boxes include: one roll of silk edging, one inkstone placed on a wooden board, along with ink, brushes, two or three sets of番組 [identification tags], two ceremonial fans with official seals, etc. The same applies to both left and right sides. However, for the left side, two drumsticks each for large drums and gongs are included. The ceremonial silk should be obtained at the head priest's residence on the day. However, one person each for left and right coordination and communication, one servant each, etc. are dispatched, and left and right sides separately obtain them from one location. Regarding the return procedure, the side that did not initially obtain them returns them.) When departing from the private residences for service, they perform mutual courtesies on the road, then proceed together in parallel. (Left takes the left side of the road, right takes the right side) The ceremony begins by entering through the gap between the bathhouse and the earthen wall, and at the western vicinity of the校倉 [log storehouse], they pay respects to Nara Shrine. 【Left Page】 After one bow, they pass outside the board fence and separate left and right at the eastern area. The left side ascends from the stone platform (shoe courtesies as usual) and takes their position above the left-side jōjiri (facing north with west as the position of honor). (They perform knee-walking to take their seats.) First they perform a seated bow, then show acknowledgment to the jōjiri-chū, the jōjiri respond, and then they settle into their seats. The right side ascends from the切板 [cutting board platform], passes behind the right-side jōjiri, and takes their position above the right-side jōjiri (facing south with west as the position of honor). The seated bow and subsequent actions are the same as for the left side. (This pair of hemp offerings is prepared and presented by the deputy officials) Next, the Master of Yin-Yang advances and stands near the cutting board platform, holding hemp to purify the bodies of the kaika officials, jōjiri, and others. (First facing the kaika officials and jōjiri, they perform a mutual bow, and when purifying, receive with正笏 [formal scepter]. When the ritual is completed with one bow, the kaika officials and below respond with bows, and the Yin-Yang master withdraws.) Next comes the offering ceremony, beginning with the left and right kaika officials making offerings, and after three offerings, it proceeds in order. (Next, the pounded chestnuts are only for the left and right jōjiri; the kaika officials do not partake. Next comes the horse keeper.)
