Taking advantage of this opening, the escaped Raireki Haretaka conspired with the Syphilis King and secretly sent generous bribes to the king's close retainers—Shokuyoku (who covets food) and Shikiyoku (who indulges in lust)—urging the king toward evil deeds and encouraging poisonous foods and lewd desires. These two men, being limitlessly greedy and evil by nature, agreed without hesitation and frequently urged the king to bring meat and alcohol into the country and establish relations with the Women's Country. As the king's heart was thus somewhat swayed, another physician-ruler named Ifuku Birei (Beautiful Clothing) appeared, using smooth words and a pleasing manner to enter through the gates of eyes and ears, positioning himself at the king's side with flattery and fawning.
