八 交通と運輸
交通運輸が都市の発展に多大の関係を有することは今更贅言するの必要はない。
豊橋市は東海道の要衝に当り東三河に於ける文化と経済の中心点である、即ち東海道本線は市の南西
部を貫通し豊橋駅には一日百二十二回の発着列車がある。
岡崎市を通じて本市と名古屋市とを連絡する名古屋鉄道があり、東三河北部を結付くる豊川鉄道、田
口鉄道、鳳来寺鉄道等があつて三信鉄道と握手せんとし、中部日本に於ける連絡機関として重大なる任
務を持つて居るのである、別に渥美半島を縦貫する渥美電鉄があり、市内を疾走する豊橋電軌鉄道があ
る。
豊橋駅に於ける発着貨物は昭和九年中には発送八万九千十一瓲、到着十万五千九百四十八瓲であつて、
一日平均前者は二百四十四円、後者は二百九十円の割合である、乗降客の数は乗客七十九万六千三百四
十七人、降客七十九万八千七百十一人であり一日平均各二千百八十人である、尚郊外電車によるものは
乗客二百七万三千八百五十三人、降客二百八万二千四百五十七人であり、貨物は発送十九万千二百三十
八瓲、到着二十四万六千九百六十三瓲である、其他自働車による貨客の出入は挙げて数ふべからざるも

8. Transportation and Logistics
It goes without saying that transportation and logistics have a tremendous relationship with urban development.
Toyohashi City is strategically located on the Tokaido route and serves as the cultural and economic center of East Mikawa. The Tokaido Main Line runs through the southwestern part of the city, and Toyohashi Station has 122 train arrivals and departures per day.
There is the Nagoya Railway connecting the city with Nagoya City via Okazaki City, and the Toyokawa Railway, Taguchi Railway, and Horaiji Railway connecting the northern part of East Mikawa, which are about to link up with the Sanshin Railway, playing a crucial role as a connecting network in central Japan. Additionally, there is the Atsumi Electric Railway running through the Atsumi Peninsula, and the Toyohashi Electric Railway running through the city.
Freight traffic at Toyohashi Station in Showa 9 (1934) consisted of 89,011 tons shipped and 105,948 tons received, averaging 244 tons shipped and 290 tons received per day. The number of passengers was 796,347 boarding and 798,711 alighting, averaging 2,180 each per day. For suburban trains, there were 2,073,853 passengers boarding and 2,082,457 alighting, with freight shipments of 191,238 tons and arrivals of 246,963 tons.
