した。それゆえ祭司長たちとパリサイ人たちがみな寄り集まって呼び合って言った。「我々は何をしようか。あの人は多くの不思議なことを行うゆえに。我々が人を放っておくならば、みな人があの人を信じる。ローマの人々が我々の所へと長人（支配者）を取りに来る。」あの人たちの一人の人、名をカイアファというその年の祭司長であったが、あの人たちに言った。「おまえたちはみな知らない。おまえたちは思わないか、長人（民）のために一人の人が死ぬのが良いよりも、みな長人（民）が滅びないために。」そのことは人が自分から言ったのではない。ただしその年の祭司長であったゆえに、前もって言った。イエスが長人（民）のためにやがて死ぬと。その民ばかりではない。神の国へ散らばれた子どもをみな寄り集めるために。その日から、あの人たちは相談し合った。イエスを殺そうと。それゆえイエスはユダヤ人

So the chief priests and Pharisees gathered together and called to one another, saying, "What shall we do? For this man performs many miraculous signs. If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation." But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, "You know nothing at all. Do you not realize that it is better for you that one man should die for the people rather than that the whole nation should perish?" He did not say this of his own accord, but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation, and not for the nation only, but also to gather into one the children of God who are scattered abroad. So from that day on they made plans to put him to death. Therefore Jesus no longer walked openly among the Jews
