這種の書物の今ま我国縁髪児の手に上る喜ふべきかな
此の書は外国に漂流したる我が国民が齎らし帰る実話
を蒐集したるもの著者は曰ふ児童に海事を知らしめ国
民教育の一助となすにありと東洋の海国一日も早く狂
瀾を行くこと坦途の如く帆を操り談笑するの健児を出だ

●東京朝日新聞 (七月廿日) 本書は小国民の主筆石
井民司氏が国民教育の一端に供せんとの目的にて徳川
幕府の頃漂流譚中事実の殊に著しきを収録したるもの
なり当時船舶の構造十分ならざるより動もすれば激浪
怒涛の為に其身を過ち又は鵬程萬里の異域に漂流して
幾多の辛酸を嘗めたるもの少なからざる中に本編に載
する所筑前唐泊の水夫孫七が乗合廿人と共に南海に吹
流され九年間の難苦を嘗め尽して只一人帰国したるが
如きは酸の又酸なるものといふべし今や海に汽船あり
世界合壁の如し読者須らく省慮する所なかるべからず

るか将た有識の人我海軍思想を発せしめんとするに由
るか邦家の為めに喜ふべきなり此書は近三百年鎖国の
世代に海の四外に漂流し未た見不知の事を同胞に伝へ
たる異聞と其人の難苦を忍びて功績を国家に与へたる
功績を叙す其少年の為めに謀るの用意寔に喜ぶべし
◯第一編の出るや、漂談の材料を寄せ、或は書を寄せて
材料を貸さんことを照会されたる諸彦多し。謹て此に鳴
謝す。尚ほ諸彦の愛顧によりて、寸志を大成せんこと希

【右丁上段】
多くの海国の若者に敢為の気概を養い成就させた。この種の書物が今まで我が国の子供たちの手に渡ることは喜ばしいことである。この書は外国に漂流した我が国民が持ち帰った実話を収集したものである。著者は言う「児童に海事を知らせ国民教育の一助とすることにある」と。東洋の海国が一日も早く荒波を平坦な道のように進み、帆を操り談笑するような健やかな子供たちを輩出したいものである。
●東京朝日新聞（七月二十日） 本書は小国民の主筆石井民司氏が国民教育の一端に供しようとの目的で、徳川幕府の頃の漂流譚中で事実として特に著しいものを収録したものである。当時は船舶の構造が十分でなかったため、ともすれば激浪怒涛のために身を誤り、また遥か万里の異域に漂流して多くの辛酸を嘗めた者が少なくない。その中で本編に載せるところの筑前唐泊の水夫孫七が乗り合わせた二十人と共に南海に吹き流され、九年間の難苦を嘗め尽くして、ただ一人帰国したようなことは、酸の又酸なるものと言うべきである。今や海には汽船があり、世界は一体となっている。読者はよく考慮すべきところがある。

●日本（七月二十四日） 昨日は海国が出て、今日は漂流譚が出る。国内の人がようやく我が海軍思想を動かそうとするのか、それとも有識者が我が海軍思想を発達させようとするのか。国家のために喜ばしいことである。この書は近三百年の鎖国の世代において、海の四方に漂流し、まだ見たこともない知らないことを同胞に伝えた奇聞と、その人が難苦を忍んで国家に功績を与えた功績を述べる。その少年のために図る配慮は実に喜ばしい。

cultivated and achieved the spirit of bold enterprise in many young people of maritime nations. It is indeed joyous that this kind of book has now reached the hands of our country's children. This book is a collection of true stories brought back by our countrymen who drifted to foreign countries. The author says, "The purpose is to familiarize children with maritime affairs and serve as an aid to national education." We hope that this maritime nation of the East will soon produce vigorous children who can navigate rough seas as if they were flat roads, operating sails while chatting and laughing.
●Tokyo Asahi Newspaper (July 20th) This book was compiled by Mr. Ishii Tamiji, editor-in-chief of Shōkokumin, with the purpose of contributing to national education, collecting particularly remarkable factual accounts from castaway tales of the Tokugawa period. At that time, because ship construction was inadequate, people often made mistakes due to raging waves and angry billows, or drifted to distant foreign lands thousands of miles away, tasting many hardships. Among these, the account included in this volume of the sailor Magoshichi from Karadomari in Chikuzen, who was blown to the South Seas with twenty companions, endured nine years of hardship, and returned home as the sole survivor, can be called the most bitter of bitter experiences. Now there are steamships on the seas, and the world has become unified. Readers should give this due consideration.
●Jiji Shinpō (July 21st) The "Tales of Japanese Castaways" published by Gakureikan is a collection of several accounts of our people during the Tokugawa period who were blown away by wind and waves, wandered to various overseas locations, witnessed various phenomena, and experienced all manner of difficulties.
●Tokyo Nichi Nichi Newspaper (July 21st) Even if you preach loyalty, filial piety, benevolence, and righteousness at great length with millions of words, it is difficult to move people's hearts. In contrast, if you tell the stories of Kusunoki Masashige, Zhuge Liang, Lu Zhongda, Hino Ashinmaru, and others, even woodcutters and shepherd boys will weep. Therefore, the path of education must place more importance on showing examples rather than discussing theories. ●Central Newspaper (July 23rd) Mr. Ishii Kendō, editor-in-chief of Shōkokumin, compiled five biographical accounts after extensively searching records and miscellaneous writings about Japanese castaways from the Tokugawa period, intending to familiarize children with maritime affairs and serve as an aid to national education. This is "Tales of Japanese Castaways, Volume One." The writing flows smoothly and the language is simple, not only suitable for children's reading but also sufficient for anyone interested in maritime affairs to read and use as reference.
●Nippon (July 24th) Yesterday "Maritime Nation" was published, and today "Tales of Castaways" appears. Is this because people in the country are gradually beginning to stir maritime military thinking, or because enlightened people are trying to develop our maritime military thinking? This is cause for national celebration. This book recounts the strange tales of those who, during nearly three hundred years of national isolation, drifted to the four corners of the seas and conveyed previously unseen and unknown things to their compatriots, and the achievements of those who endured hardships and contributed to the nation. The consideration shown for young people is truly admirable.
◯When the first volume was published, many distinguished individuals sent materials about castaway stories or wrote offering to lend materials. I humbly express my gratitude here.
