村《割書：砂一丈溜まる》では高札場が砂で埋まり、札覆の屋根だけ少し見える。浅間御社の鳥居は半分以上砂で埋まり、随身門は屋根だけ少し見え、幣殿は砂で埋まって見えない。拝殿は屋根だけ少し見え、御本社は軒際まで埋まった。《割書：中略》御厨上郷の分では砂が強く降り積もった所は青竹の葉が少しもなく、総じて竹木は茎だけになり、砂が多く溜まり、村々に水がなく遠方から汲んで用いた。同五年正月、小田原領に砂が夥しく降り、田畑が荒地となったため、願いの通り御代官所に返還し、替地を賜った。高五万六千三百石余《割書：下略》

その蜩翁草に曰く、宝永四年丁亥十一月二十日頃より江戸府中の天気は曇って寒さが甚だしく朦朧としていた。二十三日午の時分、どこともなく震動し、雷鳴が頻繁で、西より南へ墨を塗ったような黒雲がたなびき、雲間より夕陽が移って物凄まじい気色であったが、程なく黒雲が一面に成り、闇夜のようになった。八時より鼠色の灰を降らせ、江戸府の諸人は魂を消して惑ったところ、老人が言うには「三十八、九年以前にこのようなことがあった。これは定めて信州浅間の焼ける灰であろう」と言ったので、少し心を取り直した。だんだん晩景に至り夜に入るに随って、いよいよ強く降りしきった。

In the village {{marginal note: sand accumulated one jō deep}}, the public notice board (kōsatsu-ba) was buried in sand with only the roof of the notice cover slightly visible. At Asama Shrine, the torii gate was buried more than halfway in sand, only the roof of the zuishin-mon gate was slightly visible, the heiden (offering hall) was completely buried and invisible, the haiden (worship hall) showed only its roof slightly, and the main shrine was buried up to the eaves. {{marginal note: middle portion omitted}} In the Mikuriya-kamigō area, where sand fell and accumulated heavily, there were no green bamboo leaves at all - generally the bamboo and trees were reduced to stems only. Sand accumulated greatly, the villages had no water, and people had to draw water from distant places. In the 5th year of the same era, in the 1st month, sand fell abundantly in Odawara domain, and fields became wasteland, so as petitioned, they returned the land to the magistrate's office and were granted replacement land. The Semiō-sō (Cicada Elder's Grass) states: From around the 20th day of the 11th month of Hōei 4, year of the Boar, the weather in Edo was overcast, extremely cold, and hazy. On the 23rd day, around the hour of the Horse (noon), there were tremors from somewhere, thunder rumbled frequently, and black clouds like spilled ink stretched from west to south. The evening sun shifted through gaps in the clouds, creating an ominous atmosphere, but soon the black clouds covered everything, becoming like a dark night. From the eighth hour (around 2 PM), mouse-colored ash began to fall. The people of Edo were bewildered and terrified, when an elderly person said, "Something like this happened thirty-eight or thirty-nine years ago. This must surely be ash from the eruption of Mount Asama in Shinshū Province." Hearing this, people regained some composure. Gradually, as evening approached and night fell, the ashfall became increasingly heavy.
