なし応山へは御心易く毎々参りて御次に伺候せしか晩年
に及ひて申せしは由なきことを覚えて甚くやし終日人に
交はる毎に其人の吉凶みな耳にひゝきていとかしましと
申けるよし去ほとに度々の高名挙てかそへかたし此四方朝
夙に起て僕を呼ひ扨々あしき調子なり此調子にては
大方京中は滅却すへきそ急き食にても認めて我を先
嵯峨の方へ誘ひゆけと云日頃の手きはともあれは早速西
をさして嵯峨に行嵐山の麓大井源【右訂「河」】原に着て暫く休
息して云やういまた調子なほらすあないふかし大方大

According to the Kaiki record of Kyōhō 9, there was once a blind man named Shikata Ichi who was a renowned sound-listener, and when he divined people's fortune and misfortune, he was never wrong. He would casually visit Ōyama frequently and attend court audiences, but in his later years he said: "I remember useless things and it troubles me greatly. Every day when I interact with people, I hear all their fortunes and misfortunes in my ears, and it is very noisy." His numerous achievements over time are countless. This Shikata rose early one morning, called his servant, and said: "What a terrible sound this is. With this sound, Kyoto will likely be destroyed. Quickly prepare some food and take me first toward Saga." With his usual efficiency, they immediately headed west to Saga, reached the foothills of Arashiyama at Ōi River plain, rested briefly, and he said: "The sound still hasn't improved—how frightening!
