当三月十二日午後三時頃、日光黒髪山に続く白根山の方角に、急に砂煙が舞い上がり、青空も黒色に変わり、激しい振動が発生し、その響きは軽雷のようでありながらも天地に轟き、硫黄の臭気のある灰を雨のように降らすこと六時間におよび、人々は驚愕屈伏いたしました。その際、白根山の様子は花火のように見えたとのことです。当管下の野州都賀郡蓮花石村より届け出申し上げます。なお詳細につきましては、実地調査の上で申し上げることになりますが、とり急ぎこの段お届け申し上げます。

Regarding tremors and other phenomena related to Mount Shirane in Yashū Province
On the 12th day of the current 3rd month at around 3 PM, in the direction of Mount Shirane, which is connected to Mount Kurokami in Nikkō, sand and smoke suddenly rose up, the blue sky turned black, intense vibrations occurred, and though the sound was like light thunder, it reverberated through heaven and earth. Ash with the smell of sulfur rained down for six hours, causing people to be shocked and prostrate themselves in fear. At that time, the appearance of Mount Shirane looked like fireworks. This report comes from Rengaseki Village in Tsuga District, Yashū Province, which is under our jurisdiction. Regarding the details, we will report after conducting an on-site investigation, but we urgently submit this preliminary report.
