現代語訳
幸之進は庚申待ちにて、夜中に顔を洗おうと盥に水を汲んだところ、二十四、五歳の若い姿になっていた。これは不思議だ、夢ではないだろうか。まさか熱に浮かされて夢を見ることはあるまい。
その隣に与兵衛という者がいて、まだ眠そうにしているが、二十二、三歳になっている。「庚申でも何でも、寝るのが良い」と構わずに、日暮れより寝て、明日も顔に日の当たるまで高鼾をかいている。
英語訳
During the Kōshin vigil, when Kōnoshin drew water in a basin to wash his face in the middle of the night, he had transformed into the youthful appearance of someone aged twenty-four or twenty-five. "How mysterious this is! Could this be a dream? Surely I couldn't be seeing dreams due to fever."
Next to him was a man called Yohei, who still looked sleepy but had become twenty-two or twenty-three years old. Saying "Whether it's Kōshin or whatever, sleeping is best," he paid no mind and had been sleeping since sunset, snoring loudly until the sun would hit his face the next morning.
