現代語訳
幸之進は望み通りに若くなり、当世風に身なりを整えた。急なことなので、今まで着ていた憲法小紋を青茶色に染め替えさせた。ところが、その小紋が思いのほか若々しく見え、その小紋が流行となった。今ではわざわざ呉服屋で古い着物を染め替えて仕立て直すようになった。
「若くなったので、めでたいから酒を振る舞おう」と言って、酒樽の蓋を抜き、一日中往来の人々にまで接待をした。今「酒を買おう」と言うのも、この時から始まったと言われている。とても珍しいことである。

容姿は二十四、五歳だが、非常に情け深く、皆様が酔いが回るように良い酒を勧めている。

Kōnoshin became young as he had wished and dressed himself in contemporary fashion. Since this happened suddenly, he had his existing kenpō komon (constitutional small-pattern kimono) re-dyed in blue-tea color. Unexpectedly, the small pattern looked remarkably youthful, and this pattern became fashionable. Now people deliberately go to fabric shops to have old garments re-dyed and re-tailored.
"Since I've become young, this is auspicious, so let me treat everyone to sake," he said, and removed the lid from a sake barrel, entertaining even passersby on the street all day long. It is said that the current expression "let's buy sake" originated from this time. It was truly a remarkable occurrence.

His appearance is that of someone twenty-four or twenty-five years old, but he is very compassionate, serving good sake so that everyone becomes pleasantly intoxicated.
