現代語訳
二人の姿が変わった。幸之進は実際の年齢は八十五歳、与兵衛は二十八歳である。しかし髪は白髪で、容姿に合わせて髪を結い、更紗の火打ち紋の襦袢を派手に仕立てた。けれども御商売心はなく、今の年頃から、この与兵衛を見習って同じ商売をしている。幸之進は容姿は二十四、五歳だが、物事に対して薄暗い考えを持ち、袂で数珠を爪繰りしており、少し年寄りっぽい。

ここにまた太兵衛という者がいて、大黒天を信心していたが、ある夜、大黒天が現れて「汝はよくこの甲子の日を祀るので、この槌を与えよう。これより両替屋を始めなさい」とおっしゃって、御厨子の中に入られた。

The two men have transformed. Kōnoshin's actual age is eighty-five, and Yohei is twenty-eight. However, his hair is white, and matching his appearance, he has arranged his hair and made a flashy undergarment with sarasa fabric featuring flint-strike patterns. Nevertheless, he lacks a merchant's spirit, and from his current age, he has been learning from this Yohei and doing the same business. Kōnoshin's appearance is that of someone twenty-four or twenty-five years old, but he has a somewhat gloomy disposition regarding things, fingering prayer beads in his sleeve, appearing somewhat elderly.

Here there was also a man named Taihei who was a devotee of Daikokuten (the god of wealth). One night, Daikokuten appeared and said, "Because you faithfully worship on these kinoe-ne days, I shall give you this mallet. From now on, begin operating as a money changer," and then entered into the sacred cabinet.
"How grateful I am. I humbly accept."
