御報
現代語訳
去る五日のお手紙を拝見いたしました。
将軍様がますますご機嫌よくお過ごしでいらっしゃることは、この上ない慶びと存じます。
さて、聖護院殿の院家である伽耶院権僧正のことですが、聖護院殿院家にお取り立てをいただいた後、体調を崩してしまい、お礼のご挨拶を申し上げることができませんでした。そのため、この度江戸に下向して将軍様にお目見えをお願いしたい旨を、諸院家並びに皆様にもご相談申し上げ、貴殿のご指図をいただいたとのことでございます。
つきましては、右の件を御老中まで申し上げましたところ、私どもの方へ伽耶院から申し聞かせるように仰せ渡しがあるとのことでございます。そのため、その旨を僧正からお伺いするように仰せ聞かされたとのこと、ご配慮をいただいたお手紙の内容を承知いたしました。

We have respectfully read your esteemed letter of the 5th day.
We are most delighted to hear that the Shogun continues to be in excellent health and spirits.
Regarding the matter of Gayain Gon-Sōjō (provisional high priest), who is a member of the Shōgoin temple family: after being appointed to the Shōgoin temple family, he fell ill and was unable to present his formal thanks. Therefore, he wishes to travel down to Edo this time to request an audience with the Shogun. We understand that he has consulted with various temple families and everyone, and has received your guidance on this matter.
Accordingly, when we reported this matter to the Rōjū (Senior Councilors), we were told that instructions would be given to us regarding what Gayain should be informed of. Therefore, we have been instructed that the monk should make his inquiry regarding this matter. We acknowledge the contents of your thoughtful letter.
