However, he brooded resentfully over the initial incident, constantly watching for an opportunity to vent his frustration. Around midnight on the fourth day of the seventh month, he finally crept into Kunitane's bedchamber, stabbed him twice with his sword, and fled. Chiba-no-suke sat up and with just one cry said "What a detestable act by that wretched boy!" In that moment, the night-duty guards who were present heard the commotion and ran in to see Kunitane covered in blood, barely managing to say "Don't let Kamata escape, capture him!" before breathing his last.
