事などを思い知っているらしいと見える庁官が言うには「ここには尊い神がいらっしゃったが、昔、田村将軍がこの国の国守であった時に、社の禰宜・祝の中から思いがけない事件が起こって大いに問題となり、朝廷に奏上されるなどして、神拝も怠られ、朔幣（毎月一日の奉幣）なども止められて、その後社も倒れ失せて、人が参ることも絶えて久しくなってしまった」と、祖父に仕えた者で八十歳ほどであった人がそのように聞いたと申したのである云々。守（国守）はこれを聞いて「まことに気の毒なことだ。神の御過失ではないのに。この神を元のように崇め奉ろう」と言って云々、その郡に命じて急いで社を大きく造らせて、朔幣に参り、神名帳に入れ奉るなどした云々《割書：神拝のことはなお袋草子・更級日記その外の書にも多く載せられているが、例の煩わしさを厭って、これのみを挙げる》
○吾妻鏡《割書：巻六》に文治二年五月二十九日の条に「神社仏寺興行の事、二品（源頼朝）が日頃からお考えになっていることで、且つ京都に申し上げられたことである。且つ東海道においては守護人等に仰せて、その国の総社《割書：并びに》国分寺の破壊及び尼寺の顛倒の事等を注進させられた。これは重ねて奏問を経て、事の体に随って修造を加えられるためである」《割書：云々》
