声あり徐〳〵地震なる事をしりて又なそるゝは
かゝる大変の事なれは地われて土中に埋なん
事を因て梅笑堂にありあふ板戸鋪もの
なとを取出し鋪石の傍に鋪並へ其災害を
防かんとして此時漸く神仏を祈念する
事を案し北辰霊府尊星王【尊星王＝妙見菩薩】象頭山
大権現一代の守護八幡大武神妻子とも〳〵
信仰し持合せたるきれものもなけれは脇
差引抜髪【髻？】りを押切りて本願を祈あたりを
うち詠れは何鹿に出火となり盛んに燃立

方角は大門町上のかた【方】東横町中程東之門町
西側にて中程此三ヶ所を先とす火事よ〳〵と
呼騒立事夥しといへともたゝ狼狽騒しのみにて
欠【駆】付行んものもなく途方に暮るはかりなり
其ほともなく西之門町新道辺より火の手
盛んに燃立暫時に御本坊こそ危くみえにけり
諸人たゝはうせんとして気を損い魂を奪れ
神号を唱へ又称名を唱へて苦患を爰に
とゝむる時節なるかな悪風悪火なる哉火気
盛んになりて本願上人様御院内中衆妻戸を

現代語訳

声があった。徐々に地震であることを知って、また恐れるのは、このような大変事なので地が割れて土中に埋まってしまうことを憂えて、梅笑堂にある板戸や敷物などを取り出し、敷石の傍に敷き並べて、その災害を防ごうとして、この時ようやく神仏を祈念することを思いついた。北辰霊府尊星王（尊星王＝妙見菩薩）、象頭山大権現、一代の守護八幡大武神を、妻子とともに信仰し、持ち合わせた切れ物もないので、脇差を引き抜き髻を押し切って本願を祈った。辺りを見回すと、何処かで出火となり盛んに燃え立っている。

方角は大門町上の方、東横町中程、東之門町西側にて中程、この三ヶ所を先とする。「火事よ、火事よ」と呼び騒ぎ立てることおびただしいといえども、ただ狼狽騒ぐばかりで駆け付けて行く者もなく、途方に暮れるばかりである。その程もなく西之門町新道辺りより火の手が盛んに燃え立ち、暫時に御本坊こそ危く見えた。諸人はただどうしようとして気を失い魂を奪われ、神号を唱え、また称名を唱えて苦患をここに留める時節である。悪風悪火であることよ。火気が盛んになって本願上人様御院内の中衆は妻戸を

There were voices. Gradually realizing it was an earthquake, we feared again that in such a great disaster the earth would split and we would be buried underground. We took out wooden doors, floor mats and other items from Baishōdō, spread them beside the stone pavement to try to prevent such disaster, and at this time finally thought to pray to the gods and buddhas. We prayed with faith, along with our wives and children, to Hokushin Reifu Sonshō-ō (Sonshō-ō = Myōken Bosatsu), Zōzusan Daigongen, and Hachiman Daibu-shin, guardian of our generation. Having no cutting implements at hand, we drew our short swords and cut off our topknots to make our vows. Looking around the area, fires had broken out somewhere and were burning fiercely.

The directions were toward the upper part of Daimon-chō, the middle of Higashiyoko-chō, and the middle of the west side of Higashinomon-chō - these three places first. Though the cries of "Fire! Fire!" were tremendous, people only panicked and made noise, with no one rushing to help, leaving everyone at a complete loss. Soon after, flames rose fiercely from around Nishinomon-chō Shindō, and in a short time even the main temple quarters appeared to be in danger. All the people, not knowing what to do, lost their composure and had their souls seized, chanting divine names and nembutsu, keeping their suffering here at this time.
