悲しさよそれにつきても仏縁こそ大事
なれと御宝龕の御跡慕ひ堀切道の右の
かた本城近き田畑にて所は素より仮寝ヶ岡
御輿安置を定め給へは幕打廻し
守護あれは前後左右に逃去し数万の
人〳〵野宿して心に称名唱へつゝ明け行
空をうち詠めあきれ果てそ居たりける

現代語訳

悲しいことである。それにつけても仏縁こそが大事であると、御宝龕の後を慕い、堀切道の右手、本城近くの田畑で、所はもとより仮寝ヶ岡と呼ばれる場所に御輿安置を定められたので、幕を打ち回して守護したところ、前後左右に逃げ去った数万の人々が野宿して、心に称名を唱えつつ明けていく空を眺めて、呆れ果てて座っていた。

英語訳

How sorrowful it was. Yet even so, thinking that the Buddhist connection was what mattered most, they followed in the wake of the sacred shrine cases. On the right side of Horikiri Road, in the rice fields near the main castle, at a place originally called Karine-ga-oka, the portable shrine's resting place was determined. Curtains were hung around it for protection, and the tens of thousands of people who had scattered in all directions spent the night in the open fields, chanting the nembutsu in their hearts while gazing at the dawning sky, sitting there in utter bewilderment.
