Fourth Month (a short month)
1st day (甲午), light rain. All five district officials (代官) were to attend the転供 (tenson, transfer of offerings) for the 御更祭 (Mikawari Festival) at Kibune Shrine; however, since Keisen was serving as the head of ritual purification (精進頭), the remaining four — Yasuteru (represented by Chōken), Yasuyuki (represented by Funshi), Suenori (represented by Yasumori), and Yasunori (attending directly) — participated. As in the eleventh month, the sacred rice wine (神酒) of the inner and outer shrines was offered, and afterward the participants rested in the antechamber (次の間) of the duty station, as was customary. The following officials attended: Head Priest Nobuhira-kyō (represented by Mōkyū-kyō, in court dress), Senior Priest Toshihira (represented by Yasufuku, in full court dress), Celebrant Yasutora (represented by Ujifusa, in full court dress), four district officials (in ritual robes and gathered trousers), the five members of the purification head group (in ritual robes), Seihitsu, Kenshu (represented by Gōki), Keisen, Suemae, Ujihiko, Soide, Hiroken, Tsūka, Seiraku, and two musicians, among others. The ceremony before the deity proceeded as customary and concluded. After returning home, a stipend (下行) of eight gō of unhulled rice each was sent from Keisen to the two bearers (夫). Subsequently, two shō of payment rice each, along with one pair of sandals (草履) that had been used at Kibune, were sent from Keisen to Soide, Hiroken, Tsūka, Sei, and the others.
○ The diviner (陰陽家) Kyōken was customarily to send two portions of sacrificial meat (胙, naorai food) after the morning meal to the district officials as the annual allotment. However, due to drought damage to the fields that funded this offering, and also because the shrine community was observing austerity measures (倹約), Kyōken submitted a report to the八乙女 (eight shrine maidens), which was then communicated to the district officials. With their understanding, one piece of dried fish each was sent instead. Note: the usual practice was to send seven portions to the eight shrine maidens and two portions to the district officials. Therefore, two pieces of dried fish arrived for the district officials, and both Yasuteru and Suenori received them.
5th day (戊戌), cloudy. As is customary each year, after the morning meal on this day, two district officials were to proceed in order of invitation to the residence (里亭) of one of the eight shrine maidens to partake of garlic sake (蒜酒). However, due to the same circumstances as the diviner's sacrificial meat on the 1st of the month, the eight shrine maidens had previously given notice that attendance was not required today, and instead two stalks of garlic (蒜) were sent. Both Suenori and Yasunori received them.
[Marginal note: On the 19th, the stipend for the summer stone-throwing festival (夏石打) was distributed from the shrine officials to the district officials. Due to the austerity measures, the amount was halved per person, with one to five shō five gō being distributed.]
21st day (甲寅), clear. Regarding the consultation and discussion for the district officials' horse racing assembly (競馬一会), the members — Yasuteru (represented by his son Chōken), Yasuyuki, Suenori, and Yasunori — gathered after the midday meal at Keisen's residence to deliberate. It was decided that, for the upcoming procession on the 1st, the two officials responsible for bringing out the ceremonial robes required for the horse-foot selection (足汰) would be Yasuyuki and Yasunori. Additionally, it was decided that Yasunori would request laborers (人夫) from Gorōtarō for the same day.
