Regarding the same matter, Yasuteru was to notify the former district officials. "For the raising of the ceremonial robes (装束上げ) on the 3rd, four laborers were also to be arranged by Yasunori." "Two ladles (銚子) needed on the 5th were to be requested by Yasuteru from the Deputy Head Priest (預大夫) through personal solicitation (入魂)." "Two silk curtains (絹幔) and one white curtain (白幕) were to be requested by Yasunori from the curtain magistrates (幕奉行中) through personal solicitation." "One laborer needed on the 5th was to be hired in advance by Yasuteru." "Approximately forty small wooden pegs (小角) were to be requested by Yasunori from the diviner (陰陽家) through personal solicitation." "Approximately thirty wooden boards (片木) were to be requested by Yasuteru from the shrine administrator (所司大夫), Kensei, through personal solicitation." "Three offering trays (三方) with three portions were to be provided by Yasunori." Beyond these, various items for provisions and lodging were to be prepared and supplied by Keisen, as follows: "For the raising of the ceremonial robes on the 3rd: two sticks of dragon-shaped inksticks (龍形墨) and two pairs of white-haired, white-handled brushes." "For the 5th: six shō of sake (divided as: three shō, two shō, one shō); one large piece of dried cod (干鱈); a small amount of wakame seaweed; thirty chestnuts (ten of which were for offering, provided by Yasuteru, Yasuyuki, and Keisen); a small amount of kelp (昆布); a small amount of noshi (熨斗, dried abalone strips); three small mackerel sushi (鯖鮓); fifty pieces of single-use earthenware (三度土器); fifteen sheets of Yoshino cedar paper (吉野杉原); five sets of cedar chopsticks; and one pair of small ritual wands (小幣) — the wand staffs being one shaku two sun long, three bu wide on each side (some say two bu), with the paper being two layers of Mino paper, four bu wide in the hanging portion. These are half-wands (片幣), one on each side making one pair. No vertical paper; bound with a tie. The paper is cut and slipped onto the staff, held in place with paste. This year, these were obtained by requesting them from the former district officials." This pair of small ritual wands was to be presented at the time the Diviner's Senior Priest (陰陽大夫) took his seat (literally 'mounted his buttocks') in the administrative hall (庁屋). At the Kiroshiba (切芝) ceremony, they were to be prepared and presented by the Deputy Senior Priest (預大夫). Note: when prepared by the Deputy, the wand staffs are round; when prepared by the district officials, they are square. For the current year, the officials at the foot of the steps (階下) were: on the left side, Suenori, Junior Fourth Rank Lower (正四位下); on the right side, Yasunori, Senior Fourth Rank Upper (従四位上). The funds needed on the day by these two officials at the foot of the steps: by recent precedent, the five district officials each contributed one hundred hiki of gold per person, with each person's share coming to two bu and two shu. However, since the shrine community was observing austerity measures this year, the evening meal for the festival supervisor (肝煎), as well as the mackerel sushi, red rice, and all related items, were to be suspended. Accordingly, it was proposed for this year to reduce the required funds, fixing the contribution per person at ten monme of silver, with each person's share set at twenty-five monme. When this was discussed with the two officials concerned, they both indicated that they needed to deliberate further, and afterward they sent word of their agreement. ○ Chōken was serving as the Deputy Shrine Administrator (所司代) for the current year. For this reason, the roster (番頭) bearing the name Chōbun (张文, the Chinese-character name of Chōken) for the御棚会 (Otana-e, an assembly) was to be returned, and it was accordingly taken back. Since this matter was not recorded in the register of district officials' duties, it was for the time being handed over. The matter should be further inquired into and examined.
