Item: On the same day, as soon as dusk falls (at the lighting of lamps), all the items prepared for that day are to be promptly transported and delivered to the Chōya (administrative building). Wearing the purification robe (jōe), one is to go and receive the key to the Chōya from the Shoshi Dayū (Chief Administrator), remove the upper and lower sections of the latticed shutters (shitomi) above the cut-boards of the Chōya, and light fires at five locations. At the seats in the north main hall (omoya)——
Light fires at the 2nd pillar and 3rd pillar on the north side, and at the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th pillars on the south side.
Summon the shrine servants (jinnin) and notify the Tone (senior shrine functionary).
Item: Load the "passage offerings" (tōrimono) onto trays and distribute them. The items are as follows:
Chestnuts (stand with paper marker; twenty small portions at each seat) Thornback ray (one piece per seat; twenty small portions)
(One ceramic dish per three rounds; the above is for the 21 shrine officials [shashi]. The Shōjin Tōnin [head of the abstinence group], however——)
Persimmons (same as above) Flower petals/hana (one piece placed on a small angled dish) Sake cups (when there is a shortage of flower petals for the Tōnin, place half a portion of persimmon and one chestnut each)
(One small portion per place, at one location each; those attending at will are treated the same)
The above: attendance of shrine officials (shashi) is optional. The Shōjin Tōnin is likewise. When shrine officials attend, lanterns are to be lit near the Third Torii to confirm how many have come. End. Misconduct/Negligence——
