奉行中ゟ階下之輩へ被申入候者六番ノ乗尻左
本人貢清ニ候処右禄顕名代ニ弟温清乗馬之
儀如何ニ被存候ニ付一応被及相談候旨也依之両階
下并左右乗尻中相談之上返答之趣者名代届之
節何れも心付無之候成程不宜儀ニ候得共只
今差掛リ候事且貢清も名代之儀ニ候へ者今
日之処者其侭ニ先御差置以来ケ様之儀無之様
被示合可然被存候旨階下後見之輩ゟ申入候処
惣奉行中各承知之旨ニ而相済了

処如左乗尻御所屋ノ西ヘ乗廻ストキ左ノ膝ヲ立
毛付了膝ヲ直シ末広ヲ取テ気色ス又組合
ノトキ神主相談ノトキハ膝ヲ立ス右了テ膝ヲ立テ
組合ヲ書付了膝ヲ立ナリニ乗尻申シ渡サル
現代語訳
《割書：兄弟が交代で番を務めることが不適切である旨の件》【朱書】
一 六番の左貢清《割書：代季般》右禄顕《割書：代温清》が出仕したところ、総
奉行中より階下の者たちへ申し入れがあった。六番の乗尻の左は
本人貢清であるのに、右禄顕の名代に弟温清が乗馬する
件はいかがなものかと思われるので、一応相談したい旨である。これにより両階
下並びに左右乗尻中で相談の上、返答の趣旨は、名代届出の
際に誰も気付かなかった。確かに不適切な件ではあるが、ただ
今差し迫った事でもあり、且つ貢清も名代の件であるので、今
日のところはそのままにして先ず差し置き、以後このような件がないよう
示し合わせるのが良いと思われる旨を、階下後見の者たちから申し入れたところ、
総奉行中各々承知の旨で済んだ。

一 所司代保永が御所屋での勤務方法が先例と相違している
ところは次の通り。乗尻が御所屋の西へ乗り回すとき、左の膝を立て
毛付を済ませ、膝を直し、末広を取って気色する。また組合せの
時、神主相談の時には膝を立てず、右を済ませて膝を立てて
組合せを書き付け済ませ、膝を立てたまま乗尻に申し渡される。

1 When the sixth race left Mitsukiyo《Marginal note: substitute Suenori》and right Yoshiaki《Marginal note: substitute Harukiyo》reported for duty, the chief administrators made an inquiry to those below the stairs. Regarding the sixth race riders, the left is the actual person Mitsukiyo, but for the right Yoshiaki, his younger brother Harukiyo is riding as substitute - they wondered if this arrangement was appropriate and wished to consult on the matter. Accordingly, both those below the stairs and the left and right riders consulted, and their response was that no one had noticed this issue when the substitute arrangement was reported. While it is indeed an inappropriate matter, given the immediate circumstances and that Mitsukiyo is also serving as a substitute, for today's purposes it should be left as is for now, with an agreement to avoid such situations in the future. When this was conveyed by the guardians of those below the stairs, all the chief administrators acknowledged and the matter was resolved.

1 Director Yasunaga's method of service at the sacred building differs from precedent
as follows: When the rider circles to the west of the sacred building, he raises his left knee,
completes the hair arrangement, straightens his knee, takes his fan and performs the ritual gesture. Also during the pairing,
during consultation with the head priest, he does not raise his knee, completes the right side, then raises his knee,
records the pairing, and gives instructions to the rider while keeping his knee raised.
