常陸守が先馬で落馬し、大隅守は追い馬であった。常陸守が馬を出したところ落馬したので、しばらく待って大隅守が馬を出して勝ちを申したところ、常陸守が馬に乗って埒の内へ引き返り、馬を上げられて庁屋へ直りを申すべきだと、同名衆その他贔屓の衆が申されたが、負けて庁屋へ直る例は昔からない。それならば大隅守も帰られるべきだと申す人もあり、大隅は勝って帰ることはあるまいと、議論は区々であった。年序方の酒も通らず、社務が下向したので、乗り手衆も皆々下向した。その時、五日の酒を十四日に通したのである。

However, Hitachi-no-kami mounted his horse and returned within the barrier, had his horse withdrawn, and his clan members and other supporters argued that he should appeal to the office building. But there was no precedent for the loser to appeal to the office building. Some said that if so, Ōsumi-no-kami should also return, while others argued that Ōsumi, having won, should not have to return - the debate was divided.
