貴殿御心次第トテ階下返言尤至極神妙之返

当年朔日、正祢宜の馬に但馬介申顕が乗り終えた。一人馳の時、四度落馬してそれでも出走しなかったため、名代として保玄をもって勤めさせた。その時、里人皆これを嘲った。

その理由は、一人馳の名代は上古・中古から今日まで前例がなく、非例の始まりであるからだ。このような悪例は今後二度と行わないよう証明する必要があるため、これを記録し終えた。
《割書：神主と階下の勝負の決定論のこと》【朱書】
五日の競馬会の出仕が大幅に遅れ、先乗尻方は未刻に出仕した。いかがなものか。また神主保可は未下刻に出仕した。その時、神主より織部正保喜を使者として遣わし、その言葉には「今日の勝負は神主より決定すべきであるのに、階下により決められてしまった。然る上は庁屋への着座はいたすまじ」ということであった。階下刑顕は返答して言った。「これは新しく仰せられることです。神主は頓宮への供奉のための着座の役です。こちらは合鉦・大鼓を打って勝負を決定する役人です。往古よりの社法の通り、こちらで決定いたしました。また庁屋着座のことは面々の事で、これは貴殿のお心次第です」と階下が返答した。まことにもっともで至極神妙な返答であった。
